| Yoga Unites
Inspiring, Emotional, Fun. Community, Sharing, Surviving. Growing, Living. These are the words that come to my mind when I think about the
Yoga Unites for Living beyond Breast Cancer event at the Philadelphia Art Museum on Sunday, May 18. The weather was perfect and the view over
the Ben Franklin Parkway was amazing as we sat on our yoga mats on the steps of the Art Museum and listened to Sandy Ward's story of discovery,
denial, and ultimately recovery and survival. I was in awe of the other survivors who stood up when asked and felt privileged to be there and
to share this experience with everyone.
Then class began and we breathed, laughed, and even danced as Jennifer Schelter expertly guided us through a series of asanas. Each one of
us allowed our inner light to shine brightly as we opened our hearts to the sun and our minds to the possibilities, all of us interconnected.
It was especially powerful when we paired up and sat cross-legged, facing each other knee to knee, eye to eye, and placed our own hand on our
hearts. We then placed our other hand on top of our partner's hand and heart. It was a level of intimacy that we don't get to experience every
day and at first it was hard to look my partner in the eye. But as we sat and got more comfortable, our gazes intertwined, I realized how important
it is to connect with others on a deeper level. And I was thankful for the opportunity to do so.
Thank you again to all who came out to this event. And if you couldn't make it this time around, we plan on attending next year. Don't miss it!
