Class Descriptions
Beginner Yoga Series: Yoga is for Every Body! Learn the foundations of yoga so you can begin to experience its transformational effects. Explore proper alignment and correct breathing while developing strength, flexibility, and balance in a supportive environment. This class is designed for the brand new student, yet experienced students may attend to reinforce the basics. Level: Beginner *Pre-registration required. Prenatal Yoga: Join with other pregnant women to experience the many physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits of yoga. This gentle class will teach you poses and techniques to help you relax and cope with the common discomforts of pregnancy and prepare you for your upcoming arrival. No prior yoga experience necessary. *6-week series. Pre-registration and doctor/midwife permission required. YogaRenew: A refreshing class for all levels, this vinyasa flow class focuses on correct alignment, basic yoga poses, and linking breath with movement. This is an excellent class for beginning through experienced students. Level: Beginner/All Levels
Vinyasa Flow Yoga: Sun salutations and creative flow sequences are emphasized here. Linking your breath and movement energizes your mind, body and spirit while creating a moving meditation in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Class finishes with longer held poses and deep relaxation. Modifications are offered based on the needs of the class. The room is kept very warm to enhance the effects. Level: All Levels/Intermediate Hot Vinyasa Flow Yoga: Similar to our standard Vinyasa Flow class with more heat for enhanced effects. Specific sequencing of asanas and the hotter room temperature will help you detoxify, improve your strength, flexibility and stamina, and melt away tension. Level: All Levels Yin/Vinyasa Yoga: Explore a balance of opposites. Class begins with the cool practice of Yin Yoga, where seated postures are held for several minutes to lengthen and release connective tissues, improving joint flexibility and range of motion. The second half of class focuses on the more active vinyasa-flow style of yoga, moving from pose to pose connecting with the breath. A great class for beginning through experienced students. Level: All Levels Yogilates: Get the best of both worlds. This class creatively combines vinyasa yoga and Pilates mat sequences to challenge your body and mind. Props such as weights, rings, and bands are occasionally added to help enhance overall strength, flexibility, and core fitness. Level: All Levels Pilates Mat & Pilates 6 Week Series: Tone and strengthen your core by focusing on the development of your abdominals, hips, and back. Pilates emphasizes precise body alignment, mental focus, and breath work for a refreshing mind/body workout resulting in improved posture, flexibility, and strength. This beginner friendly mat class is also appropriate for those with Pilates experience. Level: Beginner/All Levels Please pre-register for the 6 week series. Pilates Reformer Strength Circuit: Experience total mind & body integration applying Pilates principles for shaping and toning not just your core, but your whole body. In this circuit-style class you'll rotate between the reformer and the mat, using other props including weights and the magic circle. Have fun trying something new while getting your whole body in shape. Level: All Levels Four Week Program. 2 participants minimum/4 maximum. Pre-registration/payment Required. Family Yoga: Stop into the studio and experience yoga together with your loved ones. Family yoga is a basic yoga class for beginning through experienced participants. All ages are welcome! This is a great way to start your yoga practice or introduce your child to yoga. Bring your yoga mats or borrow one of ours. Wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement. Drop-in or use your class package. Family Yoga meets on the following Saturdays at 11:00AM: 10/2/10, 11/6/10, 12/4/10 KidzFit Yoga: Kids ages 6 and up will learn about yoga by combining familiar games with a yoga theme. Children have the opportunity to learn the foundations of yoga while having fun and developing healthy bodies and attitudes. *6-week series. Pre-registration and payment required. KidzFit Yoga usually meets in late winter/early spring. Please check back for dates. About Class Levels:
Beginner Level: is appropriate for the beginning student or someone recovering from an injury. The pace of the class is slower to give you a good understanding of the postures (asanas) or exercises. The emphasis is on basic poses and breathing correctly which will help you establish a solid foundation.
All Level: is appropriate for beginning through experienced students. Options are provided so that the yoga or Pilates sequences can work for you. More challenging poses and breathing techniques (yoga pranayama) may be offered with instructions to assist you.
Intermediate Level: While not necessary, it is helpful if you have some yoga or Pilates experience. More detailed cues are given throughout class to help you fine tune the postures and deepen your practice. You will be encouraged to explore beyond your boundaries if desired.
