Recap-“Yoga Unites” for LBBC

“Inhale your magnificence, exhale your radiance.” These words were spoken by our yoga teacher Jennifer Schelter while we were flowing through sun salutations on the steps of the Art Museum this past Sunday. The thick clouds from early morning gave way to the brilliant sun and warmed 1,000 collective bodies inside and out. We united together to open our hearts to love and to celebrate the lives of women while remembering that there is still no “cure” for breast cancer. Music, tears and laughter made waves through the crowd as we honored our “selves” and each other. It was an incredibly powerful experience. Team FitnessYoga raised $885 for Living beyond Breast Cancer! I would like to give you all a big hug and a huge thank you for participating in this special event. If you missed it this time around, there is always next year. ~Laura

Thursday’s 6:15 Yogilates class will move to 6:30PM starting on June 17.

Calling all kids!

A summer session of KidzFit Yoga (ages 6 & up) will begin at 5:00PM on Mondays, July 12th through August 16th. The fee for 6 weeks is $60. If your child wants to attend but will miss one or two classes during the session, you can prepay a prorated fee of $11 per class. Drop-ins are welcome, but we need at lease 5 participants signed up for the entire 6 weeks to make it worthwhile for the kids. Having more kids participate is definitely better, so tell your friends! Sign up at the studio, through the mail, or on-line (shortly).

Did you know that teens ages 13-15 are welcome to attend our regular classes with a parent, and anyone over 15 can attend classes without a parent? (The parent must sign a waiver.) The student drop-in rate is $11. And a student 6-pack is $60.

Calling all Triathletes/Runners/Cyclists!

Yoga for Triathletes 4 week Series begins on Thursday, July 8 at 7:45PM. Build core stability, strength, and flexibility, improve your concentration, body awareness, and develop a more balanced body. The 4 week series is $59. Drop-ins are $17. Sign up at the studio, through the mail, or on-line (shortly).

We are planning on keeping the rest of the schedule as is. However we will cancel classes with consistently low attendance. Please continue to reap the benefits of yoga and Pilates by regularly attending classes over the summer.

Release deeply-held tension, have some fun, and discover your inner power. You should be comfortable moving through several sun salutations in a room heated to about 90 degrees. This is a challenging class for those with some yoga experience. Sweating is a desirable effect. Please arrive well hydrated and in good health. Bring a yoga mat, water, a large towel, and your spirit! This popular class usually sells out. Please register early.

Spotlight on Classes

Check out Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Vinyasa Flow Yoga expands upon what you learn in our Yoga Renew classes. In this class you’ll experience the power of yoga with plenty of sun salutations and flowing sequences. Linking your breath and movement energizes your mind, body and spirit and creates a moving meditation. More challenging postures may be explored here and can include head/handstands and back bends. You are encouraged to work within your abilities and modifications are offered based on your needs. Class finishes with longer held poses and deep relaxation. While not as hot as “Hot Yoga,” the room is kept very warm to enhance the effects. Each class is a little different allowing for maximum creativity. If you have yoga experience or are very fit, let go of your inhibitions and try something new.

Delicious Nutritious Muffin Recipe

Thank you to Kristina Fox for providing me with this great recipe. We had these muffins on the morning of Yoga Unites and everyone really liked them. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350°.
Place 18 muffin cups liners in muffin cups; coat liners with cooking spray.
Lightly spoon flours into dry measuring cups, and level with a knife. Combine flours and next 5 ingredients (through salt) in a large bowl; stir with a whisk. Make a well in center of mixture. Combine yogurt, banana, and egg; add to flour mixture, stirring just until moist. Fold in cherries, walnuts, and pineapple. Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups. Sprinkle evenly with flaxseed. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes or until muffins spring back when touched lightly in center. Remove muffins from pans immediately; cool on a wire rack.

Wishing you light, love, and happiness,

Laura
